Botwood will be home to the next Global Mural Conference in 2018. In 2016 Botwood Mural Arts Society bid to host the next GMC, and they succeeded. They convinced the committee that even though Botwood has only eight murals, they will make up the difference with their creativity, their hospitality, their community spirit and scenery. For them, the more murals they can make, the more attention they get, and that brings more people to their community and generates revenue. The most recent mural is “The Two Rs” a visual allegory celebrating the writers of Newfoundland and Labrador and their readers covering two walls of the Botwood Public Library. Artist Craig Goudie of nearby Grand Falls-Windsor remarked on how we all love a good story. As Newfoundlanders and Labradoreans we love to hear them; we love to share them. All of us have people in our lives who we know to be good story tellers. We have a long history in this province of being creative people. The conference will be a three-day event September 12-15, 2018. As a pioneer for organized mural arts in Newfoundland, the Botwood Mural Arts Society invites you to explore the vibrant history of our charming community through breathtaking paintings found in our town.
